Savings round up - 7th September

It has been a mixed bag in the savings market recently. Easy access rates have had a boost with providers consolidating around 4.50% - 4.55% and that looks set to hold. Short term fixed rates have taken a dip with best buys now at 4.50% or less. However, 1 Year Fixed rates have remained resolut around 4.90% and we've seen several 5% fixed rates and Shawbrook breaching that marker to be the first to move above at 5.01%. The Iran War is driving higher rates with financial markets pricing in three Base Rate rises in the next 12 months. That will take us to 4.50%, which suggests banks are expecting much higher, given current pricing. We're not convinced it is going that far but do believe we will see Base hit 4% before 2026 is out, either at the MPC meeting at the end of this month or at November's one. Here's our round up of the leading providers and rates in each category:

NatWest's new digital banking offshoot, First Active, go top of the table with a best buy rate of 4.55%. This rate includes a bonus of 1.50% for 12 months.
