Shawbrook was founded in 2011 when the then RBS Special Opportunities Fund bought Whiteaway Laidlaw Bank from Manchester Building Society and combined it with Commercial First and Link Loans to create Shawbrook Bank. It listed on the London Stock Exchange before being acquired by a consortium led by BC Partners and Pollen Street Capital in July 2017

Shawbrook has three main lending divisions:

• Consumer finance – offering personal loans, car and marine finance and loans for weddings, debt consolation and home improvements
• Property finance – bridging loans, second charge mortgages, commercial mortgages and mortgages for professional property investors and landlords
• Business finance – asset finance, working capital finance, structured finance and development finance

Shawbrook was one of the first wave of new bank to enter the market, after the financial crisis. It has built a diversified range of lending activities , supported by one of the largest savings customer base of the new entrant banks, and made £94.4m of profit before tax in its half year results to 30th June 2021.

The Bank’s easy access account has been a mainstay of our best buy tables, since its launch in August 2017. Shawbrook has started 2021 strongly with some very competitive fixed rate savings accounts, ISAs and sits at the top of our business savings tables.
